The Pells Sauna
Our accessible sauna will be open this summer. Anyone aged 16 or older can book a sauna session alongside a swim session.
The sauna will be open during pool opening hours throughout the season.
You must pay for a swim to book a sauna session.
If the swim session is full but there are sauna spaces available online, please book your sauna and pay for a swim at the kiosk when you arrive. You won't be able to come into Pells without paying for a swim.
Please refer to our terms and conditions below, specifically relating to sauna use - they include guidelines for the safe use of saunas, to ensure you have an enjoyable time.

How to book a swim or sauna
You can book swims and sauna sessions in advance using our online booking system, which will open two weeks before the start of the season.
If you don’t have access to the internet, you can book swims and sauna sessions in advance at the kiosk. You can also turn up at the start of a session and buy a ticket, if there are spaces available. If the session is fully booked, you won't be able to buy a ticket.
Pells is very popular, particularly in the school holidays, so we open up bookings two weeks in advance. This is to give as many people as possible the chance to enjoy the pool.
Please book a space for everyone who’s coming – even if they’re not planning to swim.
The booking system shows you how many spaces are left in each session.
Bringing children to the Pells
We love having children at the Pells and to make sure everyone is safe, we have a few rules:
-
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult (16+) but can swim on their own
-
Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult in the water, at all times
-
One adult can bring two children aged between four and eight, or one child three years old or younger
-
Children under two swim for free but you still need to book them a space.
-
For children (under 16) to swim at the Pells the temperature of the water needs to be 15 degrees or above.
Swim Passes
If you’re a regular adult swimmer at the Pells, you can buy a Swim Pass to pay for 10, 15, 30, 60 or 100 swims in advance, which is cheaper than paying for individual sessions.
You pay for a Swim Pass by adding it to your shopping basket when you book the first swim; the cost of that swim is deducted from your pass. Subsequent swims are paid for using the pass, until it’s used up. You can see how many swims you have left on your bookings page.
Please note that any unused swims at the end of the season aren’t refundable.
We also offer ten swims for adults on Universal Credit.
The Swim Pass can only be used to book a swim for the person named on the pass but you can book more than one session a day.
Please note that buying a Swim Pass doesn’t give you priority over other swimmers when booking – if the session is full, then you won’t be able to book a swim.
Terms and conditions
-
By making a booking, you agree to follow all reasonable lifeguard requests when in the pool and the pool area. This includes being asked to leave the pool or to not enter the water
-
We don’t refund bookings, including those made with a Swim Pass
-
You can’t transfer a booking to someone else
-
Bookings made using Swim Passes can only be for the person named on the pass
-
We don’t give refunds for unused sessions on a Swim Pass
-
You can move a booking to another session up to 24 hours in advance by emailing us at pellspool@pellspool.org.uk or through your booking page on Bookwhen.
-
Sessions always go ahead, regardless of the weather, although we reserve the right to cancel sessions, or change the start and finish times, for safety reasons, thunderstorms or water quality. We’ll contact everyone with a booking if we have to cancel a session.
-
In cold water, users should aim to stay for one minute per degree Celsius as a guide.
-
Alcohol or drug use before or during the use of the pool or sauna is strictly prohibited.
-
Users confirm they are physically fit to swim or use the sauna and have sought medical advice if they are unsure.
-
We reserve the right to refuse entry or remove any person whose behaviour is unsafe, disruptive, or disrespectful, without refund.
-
We accept no liability for injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from use of the sauna, unless caused by our proven negligence.
-
We are not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings brought onto the site.
-
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under law.
Sauna terms and conditions
-
Sauna sessions are for adults and young people aged 16 or older.
-
Users must not use the sauna if they are pregnant or if they suffer from a heart condition, circulatory issues, epilepsy, uncontrolled blood pressure, or any medical condition that may be affected by heat exposure.
-
Sauna bathing involves exposure to:
-
High temperatures
-
Hot surfaces and equipment
-
Steam
-
Slippery floors
-
Rapid changes in body temperature.
-
By entering the sauna, users acknowledge and accept these risks and agree to take personal responsibility for their own wellbeing during use.
Users must:
-
Shower before entering the sauna
-
Wear appropriate swimwear at all times
-
Sit on a towel
-
Users should take their towel with them every time they leave the sauna
-
Not wear shoes, neoprene or wetsuits inside the sauna
-
Behave respectfully to other users and sauna staff at all times.
Sauna safety rules
For their safety and the safety of others, all users must:
-
Follow all instructions given by staff or displayed on signage
-
Sit on a towel at all times
-
Not touch the stove, stones, flue, or any heating equipment
-
Pour water gently across the entire rock bed rather than in one place to protect the stove and prevent splashes of scalding water
-
Not pour water onto the stones, without the agreement of others
-
Not jump into cold water after leaving the sauna. Users should enter cold water temperatures in either the pool or the plunge pool slowly and build up their tolerance to prevent cold water shock
-
Leave the sauna immediately if feeling faint, dizzy, unwell or uncomfortable.
-
We recommend individual sauna sessions of 10 to15 minutes at a time, 20 minutes maximum, with cooling-off periods in between
-
Prolonged exposure to sauna temperatures increases health risks and is strongly discouraged.
Children in the sauna
-
While sauna use is restricted to users aged 16 or older, occasionally, special sessions may be available for children aged 12- 16 years. During these sessions, children must always be supervised by a responsible adult in both the sauna and sauna area.
-
Children under 16 are not allowed to use the cold plunge.
-
By booking a children’s session, the responsible adult agrees to these terms and conditions for use of the sauna and sauna area.
